Vienna Philharmonic 1/4 ounce Gold 2026
Vienna Philharmonic 1/4 Ounce Gold 2026 is a gold bullion coin of the Republic of Austria, struck in 999.9 fine gold with a mass of 1/4 troy ounce. The issuer is the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich AG), and the face value is 25 euros. The coin has a diameter of about 22 mm, a reeded edge, and a standard strike. The design corresponds to the other denominations in the Vienna Philharmonic series.
The issue belongs to the Vienna Philharmonic program, which constitutes the core line of Austria’s gold investment coins. The 1/4 ounce variant complements the series’ range of weights, retaining the same gold fineness and iconographic layout as the higher-weight coins. The 25-euro denomination grants the coin legal-tender status within Austria; in practice, however, the decisive factor is the value of the precious metal it contains. The 2026 issue continues the series’ consistent aesthetics, making it easy to build year-dated investment and collector sets.
The coin’s iconographic design was created by Thomas Pesendorfer, for many years the Austrian Mint’s chief engraver. Both the obverse and reverse employ motifs referencing the Vienna Philharmonic and the Musikverein’s Golden Hall. The inscriptions are rendered in German, in line with the series’ original concept. By keeping the design unchanged, the coin remains easily recognizable in numismatic and investment trade.
Obverse depicts the pipe organ of the Musikverein’s Golden Hall in Vienna, shown frontally with numerous architectural details. In the upper part of the obverse appears the inscription “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH,” identifying the issuing country. Below the image are the weight and gold fineness “1/4 UNZE GOLD 999.9,” the year of issue “2026,” and the face value “25 EURO.” The composition retains the symmetrical layout typical of the entire Vienna Philharmonic series.
Reverse shows a set of instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic orchestra: a centrally placed cello surrounded by violins and violas, with a Vienna horn, bassoon, and harp in the background. The whole is encircled by the arched inscription “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER” running along the coin’s rim. The reverse design is shared by all gold Philharmonics, regardless of year of mintage and weight variant.
