The Royal Tudor Beasts: The Queen’s Lion 1 Ounce Gold 2026
The Royal Tudor Beasts: The Queen's Lion 1 oz Gold 2026 is the latest precious issue in the esteemed “Royal Tudor Beasts” series, continuing the homage to the heraldic animals of the Tudor dynasty. Following the success of earlier releases including the Lion of England (2022), the Beaufort Yale (2023), and the Queen’s Panther (2025), this coin introduces the powerful Queen’s Lion – symbolizing dignity, courage, and royal authority.
This issue was produced by the renowned The Royal Mint, operational since 886 AD and recognized as one of the world’s oldest minting authorities. Struck in 999.9 fine gold, it adheres to the strictest numismatic purity and minting standards. The series draws inspiration from the stone sculptures of heraldic beasts dated circa 1530 on the Moat Bridge at Hampton Court Palace, commissioned in honor of King Henry VIII’s marriage to Jane Seymour, blending Tudor heritage with contemporary minting artistry.
The Queen’s Lion coin weighs exactly 1 troy ounce (31.21 g) of pure gold, with a diameter of 32.69 mm and a thickness of approximately 2.8 mm. It carries a face value of £100, with unlimited bullion mintage ensuring broad investor availability. The design by David Lawrence, who also conceptualized prior series issues, ensures artistic cohesion and exceptional relief detail.
Obverse: Features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III, crafted by Martin Jennings. Surrounding the portrait is the legend “CHARLES III·D·G·REX·F·D·100 POUNDS·2026,” denoting the monarch’s name, titles, denomination, and year of issue.
Reverse: Depicts the dynamic Queen’s Lion holding a shield bearing the combined Tudor and Seymour arms. The top field is inscribed “THE QUEEN'S LION,” while the lower section reads “1 oz FINE GOLD 999.9” and the date “2026.” A subtle medieval chainmail texture in the background adds depth and regal elegance to the composition.
