The koala is popularly referred to as the ''koala bear'', which erroneously suggests an affinity with bears. It is found along the Queensland coast, New South Wales and Victoria. It spends most of its life in the highest branches of eucalyptus trees. It is a nocturnally active animal. Its digestive system allows it to digest only the leaves of selected plant species. The koala prefers eucalyptus (Eucalyptus), but also supplements its diet with the leaves of several species of the genera Corymbia, Angophora, Lophostemon, banksia (Banksia), Leptospermum and Melaleuca.
