The 2 ounce silver coin The Falcon of the Plantagenets is the next coin in the popular Beasts of the Queen bullion coin series. The series is produced by the UK's Royal Mint.When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953 in Westminster Abbey, ten statues, royal protectors known as the Queen's Beasts, stood guard. They represented the centuries of history and heritage that had been handed down to the new Queen that day. Each beast has a story to tell and another coin depicting the sixth beast was inspired by the magnificent Plantagenet Falcon. The Falcon of the Plantagenets motif was first used by Edward III, but came into general use under Edward IV. During the reign of Elizabeth I it was recognised as a royal beast.
