Silver Coin Perth Mint: 40th Anniversary of the Australian Nugget Hobart Money Expo Gilded 1 oz Silver 2026 (in card)
Perth Mint Silver Coin: 40th Anniversary of the Australian Nugget Hobart Money Expo Gold-Plated 1 oz Silver 2026 is a special issue prepared by The Perth Mint for the Hobart Money Expo 2026 coin show. The coin commemorates the 40th anniversary of the Australian Nugget series, the first program of gold coins with legal tender status produced by the Perth Mint since production of sovereigns ended in 1931.
The coin is struck from .9999 fine silver (Ag) with a weight of 1 troy ounce (31.107 g) and a diameter of 40.9 mm. Selected elements of the design are plated with 24-carat gold, highlighting the details of the motif. The piece has a face value of 1 Australian dollar and is finished to Proof standard. The mintage is limited to 2,000 pieces. The coin is offered in a dedicated collector card prepared for the Hobart Money Expo.
The Australian Nugget series debuted in 1986 and featured famous gold nuggets found across Australia. Designs by renowned designer and goldsmith Stuart Devlin quickly earned recognition among collectors worldwide, becoming one of the Perth Mint’s most important coin programs.
The obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Dan Thorne, together with the coin’s face value.
The reverse, by Stuart Devlin, depicts the famous gold nugget Welcome Stranger—the largest ever found. The motif is surrounded by stylized rays and the outline of the map of Australia. The design also includes the inscription "THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET", the weight and silver fineness, the 2026 year-date, and the P40 mintmark commemorating the series’ 40th anniversary.
