Silver Coin American Eagle 1 oz Silver 1998 Gold-Plated
Silver Coin American Eagle 1 oz Silver 1998 Gold-Plated
The gold-plated American Eagle 1998 combines the classic American coin motif with a golden surface finish. Its base is a silver American Eagle struck by the United States Mint. This offer is for the specified year 1998, rather than a coin selected at random from different dates.
999 fine silver and gold plating
The coin contains 1 troy ounce of silver, approximately 31.1 g, with 0.999 fineness, a diameter of 40.6 mm and a face value of 1 US dollar. It has a reeded edge. Gold plating is an additional surface treatment: it provides the golden colour while the coin remains silver. It is not a solid gold coin.
A classic American Eagle issue
Silver American Eagles have been issued since 1986. The 1998 coin belongs to the issues with John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle Type 1 reverse. The obverse is based on Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty composition. The coin is offered in a plastic capsule. Images are illustrative; the shade of gold plating and the actual appearance may vary.
Obverse and reverse
Obverse depicts Liberty walking, draped in the US flag, with oak and laurel branches and the rising sun. LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST accompany the figure, with the date 1998 below.
Reverse shows a heraldic eagle with a shield, an olive branch and arrows. Thirteen stars appear above it, with E PLURIBUS UNUM on a ribbon. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER and ONE DOLLAR identify the issuer, silver content and denomination.
