Nicholas II Romanov the last Tsar of Russia, reigning from 1894 to 1917, crowned in Moscow 1896 after the death of his father. Continuer of conservative policies, opponent of reform. Between 1904 and 1905 he led a self-induced war with Japan, which ended in Russia's defeat.Revolution broke out in 1905. Although the Tsar relented on some issues and established the State Duma, equipped with legislative powers, the situation did not return to its pre-revolutionary state. Nicholas II, unable to manage the country in political turmoil and in command of his army, abdicated on 15 March 1917. After his arrest, he was finally assassinated on the night of 16-17 July 1918 together with his entire immediate family. The ruble, with a face value of RUB 5, was struck in .900 gold with a total weight of 4.28g. Its state of preservation is assessed as good, with delicate traces of wear.The reverse depicts a two-headed eagle holding a shield in its talons.
