The limited New Zealand Merganser Colorized 2 oz Silver 2021 Proof coin depicts an extinct, fish-eating waterbird that once inhabited New Zealand. This species, known as Mergus australis, was first described in 1840.
The New Zealand Merganser Colorized 2 oz Silver 2021 Proof coin was struck in proof with a mirror-like finish from .999 fine silver, weighs two troy ounces and measures 38.6 mm in diameter. It was produced by BH Mayer’s Kunstprägeanstalt GmbH, and the issue was commissioned by New Zealand Post.
The mintage of this silver coin is limited to just 500 pieces. Each coin is delivered in an elegant case together with a certificate of authenticity.
Obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley. It also includes the issuing country, year of issue, weight and metal fineness.
Reverse is adorned with a colorized image of the New Zealand merganser and the coin’s face value. The reverse was designed by Stephen Fuller.
