Żółkiewski was one of Poland’s greatest commanders. He was a supporter of compromise and peace but showed extraordinary determination and strategy in times of danger. Holding the office of Grand Crown Chancellor, he combined military skill with diplomatic talent. His politics were guided by principles of public service and loyalty to the king and homeland. He died in 1620 under tragic circumstances at Cecora, defending Poland’s honor. His death and conduct in his final moments have remained a lasting symbol of courage and sacrifice.
