Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion 1 oz Silver 2026
Germania Mint: Megafauna – Cave Lion is a silver collector coin opening the new Megafauna series, dedicated to the extinct giants of the Ice Age. The 2026 issue depicts the cave lion, one of the most powerful predators of the prehistoric world, which inhabited vast areas of Europe and Asia thousands of years ago. The coin is struck from 1 oz of 999.9 fine silver and represents a combination of raw natural symbolism and the modern minting craftsmanship of Germania Mint.
The design by Kinga Sabatowicz is an artistic interpretation of strength, instinct and the uncompromising laws governing ancient nature. The Megafauna series is conceived as a stylistically coherent collection, with successive species linked by shared graphic motifs. The coin was issued for the Republic of Liberia as legal tender with a face value of 20 dollars.
The coin has a diameter of 38.61 mm and is struck in BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) quality. The mintage totals 5,000 pieces, making it an attractive option for both thematic series collectors and enthusiasts of modern numismatics. Each piece is delivered in a protective capsule together with a certificate of authenticity (COA).
The obverse depicts the cave lion in its natural, primal environment. The predator’s tense posture, exposed fangs and claws are captured in the moment just before the leap, set against mountains and ancient forests, emphasising the drama and brutal power of the Ice Age.
The reverse shows the characteristic Megafauna series motif: the skull of a cave lion and its paw print, surrounded by tracks of other species to appear in future issues. The composition is completed by the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, the denomination 20 DOLLARS and the Germania Mint mintmark.
