The Duchess of Hamilton £2 Silver Coin, Colourised, Silver 2026 Proof Piedfort is a collector’s issue produced by The Royal Mint, commemorating one of the most recognisable locomotives in the history of British railways.

Duchess of Hamilton was built in 1938 at the Crewe Works for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). The locomotive was designed to operate the most prestigious express services between London and Glasgow. Thanks to its streamlined silhouette and distinctive Art Deco-style lining, it became a symbol of the golden age of British rail travel, combining elegance, speed, and innovation.

The coin was struck in .925 fine silver, with a weight of 24.00 g and a diameter of 28.40 mm. The numismatic piece has a face value of 2 pounds sterling and was produced to the prestigious Proof Piedfort standard. The outer ring has been additionally plated with a layer of pure gold, while the colourised reverse highlights the locomotive’s distinctive historic appearance.

The mintage has been limited to just 1,000 pieces, underscoring its exclusive and collectible character.

Obverse: features the official effigy of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, along with the denomination.

Reverse: designed by Gary Breeze, depicts the colourised Duchess of Hamilton locomotive in a dynamic side-on view. The design captures the elegance and power of the machine, which for many years was a symbol of Britain’s most prestigious railway services.

This is the first official British coin dedicated to the Duchess of Hamilton locomotive. The issue pays tribute to one of the most famous achievements of British railway engineering and recalls the golden age of rail transport in the United Kingdom.
