Copper-nickel Coin 75th Anniversary Battle of Kapyong 50 cents 2026

The 2026 50 Cents 75th Anniversary Battle of Kapyong Coin is a commemorative issue prepared by The Royal Australian Mint, marking the 75th anniversary of one of the key battles of the Korean War. The Battle of Kapyong, which took place from 22 to 27 April 1951, was a significant moment in the actions of UN forces against the Chinese offensive.

The coin was struck in a copper-nickel alloy (CuNi), with a weight of 15.55 g and a diameter of 31.51 mm. It is offered in Uncirculated condition, with a mintage of 40,000 pieces. Each specimen is housed in a capsule and presentation card containing archival materials related to the event.

The Battle of Kapyong was part of the Chinese forces’ offensive aimed at recapturing Seoul. Thanks to the determined defence of the troops, including the Australian 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, as well as the support of Canadian, British, New Zealand, and American forces, the attack was halted, which proved crucial to the further course of the conflict.

Obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Daniel Thorne, along with the name of the issuing country and the denomination, maintaining the classic style of Australian coinage.

Reverse presents a design by Bronwyn Scott commemorating the Battle of Kapyong. In the lower part, there is an ornament inspired by traditional Korean patterns, incorporating 32 poppies symbolising the Australian soldiers who fell during the fighting.
