Celebrating 200 Years of the National Gallery £2 Gold Plated Silver 2024 Proof commemorates the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery in London. The National Gallery is one of the most important and prestigious art museums in the world. It is centrally located in London's Trafalgar Square and houses an extensive collection of European art, including paintings, sculpture, prints and photography, spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day. The gallery was founded in 1824 and has been open to the public ever since, promoting art as a national heritage. Its collections include works by masters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh and Rembrandt. The product is minted in Ag.925 sterling silver, weighing 12 grams, 28.40 mm in diameter, in proof standard. In addition, the coin is gilded with yellow gold. Furthermore, this unusual piece was produced by The Royal Mint. The product has been housed in its original packaging. The coin is guaranteed by the UK government as to its legality, purity of the bullion and origin of the metal, and is full legal tender in the issuer's country.
The obverse shows the likeness of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, the inscription "CHARLES III∙D∙G∙REX∙F∙D" and the denomination and year, designed by Martin Jennings.
Rewers of the coin depict the National Gallery building in London. On the reverse are the inscriptions '200 YEARS OF NATIONAL GALLERY'. The reverse was designed by Edwina Ellis.Designer
