Walter Otto is responsible for the design of the maple leaf, which has not changed over the years.
The obverse of thegold bullion coin shows the likeness of King Charles III, the denomination and the date of issue. Since 2014, additional security features include radial lines in the background of the coin.
The reverse of the coin depicts the maple leaf, which is the national symbol of Canada, as well as the grade in which the coin was struck (Au .9999) and the name of the country (Canada) in which it is produced. The coin's design was developed by Walter Otto.
