Canada: Animal Portraits – Kermode Spirit Bear 1.5 oz Silver 2020
The 2020 1.5 oz Silver Canadian Spirit Bear is a unique bullion coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, renowned for producing top-quality .9999 fine silver products. It stands out due to its uncommon weight of 1.5 troy ounces and the depiction of a rare forest inhabitant – the Kermode bear, also known as the Spirit Bear. The Kermode is a special color variant of the black bear found only in the coastal forests of British Columbia. About 10% of this population has white fur, while retaining dark eyes, paws, and snout. This lighter coat makes them less visible against the sky, improving their success in fishing. The coin captures such a moment – a bear catching a fish from the water. The coin is struck in .9999 fine silver, with a diameter of 38 mm and a thickness of 4.5 mm. It carries a face value of 8 Canadian dollars, confirming its legal tender status. For enhanced security, radial lines and a reeded edge are applied on both sides. The coin is available individually in a protective capsule or in tubes of 15 pieces. Obverse features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, along with the coin's denomination. Reverse shows the Kermode bear in a dynamic scene of catching a fish from the water – a symbol of strength, nature, and the spiritual heritage of Canada's wilderness. The reverse also includes information on the weight, purity, issuing authority, and year of issue. Note! The product photo is for illustrative purposes only; actual appearance may vary slightly.
