The coin has been minted in a limited edition of only 2,500 pieces. Every Australian Emu coin produced by The Perth Mint is, under the Australian Currency Act of 1965, legal tender in the issuing country. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of King Charles III. The obverse design includes the inscription “CHARLES III,” the name of the issuing country, and the coin's nominal value. The portrait was created by Dan Thorne, whose work was officially approved by King Charles III himself.
The reverse depicts an adult emu in left profile, standing on a grassy dune. The upright posture and alert gaze of the bird emphasize its readiness to react to potential threats. In the background, turbulent waves add dynamism to the scene and showcase the majestic power of nature. The waves symbolically erase the emu’s footprints in the sand, illustrating the passage of time and the constant change of the surrounding world. The reverse also features the year of issue, the coin's weight, and its purity.
The reverse design was created by Ing Ing Jong, a long-time artist collaborating with The Perth Mint, known for her attention to detail and the combination of traditional motifs with modern artistic techniques. The coin includes an additional security feature in the form of an engraved “P,” highlighting the coin’s authenticity.
