The name "kangaroo," from the English "Kangaroo," was given by English settlers and comes from the Aboriginal word "gungurru."

Reverse depicts two kangaroos, with a windmill in the background. The coin also features the inscription "KANGAROO" along with details about the weight, year of issue, and metal fineness. The reverse design was created by Neil Hollis.
