African Wildlife: Somali Elephant, 1 oz Silver, 2022025
The Somali Elephant silver coin is another issue from the “Somali Elephant” series, which was launched in 1999. Interestingly, the first coins issued in 1999 were struck with a guarantee from the Zambian government. Coins minted after 2003 have a different guarantor, namely the government of Somalia. In addition, the silver and gold Somali Elephant coins form part of the African Wildlife collector program.
The 2025 silver issue was produced by the German precious metals manufacturer Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt. It weighs one troy ounce, features a fineness of Ag.9999, and has a diameter of 38.60 mm.
Furthermore, African Wildlife: Somali Elephant coins produced after 2004 have the status of legal tender and are guaranteed by the government of Somalia with regard to legality, metal purity, and origin.
The obverse depicts the coat of arms of Somalia, with two leopards supporting a shield with a star, along with information on the year of issue and the coin’s denomination.
The reverse shows an elephant set against the backdrop of the African savannah. The reverse side bears the inscriptions AFRICAN WILDLIFE, ELEPHANT, as well as details of the weight and metal purity.
