The Bavarian Mint The Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt is a European mint located in Munich and has been in operation since 1871. One of four German mints authorised to mint coins for the Latvian government.Silver is mainly used as a precious metal. Sterling silver alloyed with copper is used for jewellery, crockery and cutlery. It is also used in the production of medals. High-end musical instruments, such as flutes, are made from this alloy. Silver is a very malleable and forgeable (slightly harder than gold) monovalent group 11 metal, with a shiny lustre that can be easily polished.The obverse depicts the Somali coat of arms - two leopards supporting a shield with a white star - together with the mintage year and the denomination. The reverse of the coin depicts an image of a Somali elephant, as well as the weight and proof.
