African lion - a carnivorous species of land mammal in the cat family. It is the only cat species to live in herds. The average herd consists of about 10 females and several males. Male lions are larger than the females and have a protective role, defending the herd from threats. Additionally, males have a thick mane that acts as a natural protection for the head and neck when fighting for territory. The 2017 coin is the third in the African Lion series, struck at Sunshine Mint in high quality Ag .999 silver.
