85th Anniversary of the Katyn Massacre 50 PLN Silver 2025 Proof High Relief
The 50 zł commemorative coin was issued to mark the 85th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre, serving as a symbol of remembrance for the victims of Soviet terror.
This silver coin was minted in 2025 with a fineness of Ag.999, weighing 62.2 grams and having a diameter of 45 mm. It is characterized by a limited mintage of only 5,000 pieces. Additionally, the coin is secured in a dedicated capsule and placed in an elegant wooden case, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a commemorative folder.
On the obverse, the coin features an inscription from a letter fragment: "CZEKAM NA CIEBIE TATUSIU Z UPRAGNIENIEM" ("I AM WAITING FOR YOU, DADDY, WITH YEARNING"). The central part displays uniform details, including an officer's epaulet and Polish Army eagles recovered during the exhumation of mass graves. In the foreground, a damaged eagle with a characteristic rusty hue (selective copper plating) symbolizes the tragic fate of Polish soldiers. The lower semicircle contains the inscription "RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA" (Republic of Poland) along with the year of issue. Above this, the emblem of Poland and the denomination "50 ZŁ" are placed.
On the reverse, the coin depicts Polish Army officers in uniform. Their silhouettes are surrounded by the names of identified victims of the Katyn Massacre. Along the lower edge of the coin, the inscription reads: "85. ROCZNICA ZBRODNI KATYŃSKIEJ" ("85TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KATYN MASSACRE").
