75th Anniversary of Breaking Enigma Codes 8 g Gold 2007 Proof
A collector coin commemorating the historic event of breaking the Enigma cipher. The coin was struck in gold .900 purity with a weight of 8 grams and a face value of PLN 100. The uniqueness of the coin is emphasised by the proof finish and the limited mintage of 10,500 pieces. The gold coin was struck at the Mint of Poland on commission from the National Bank of Poland. The coin comes in an elegant case. NO CERTIFICATE. The Enigma was a German cipher machine, considered impossible to break. In 1932 its cipher was broken by three Polish scientists: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski. Later, the research and decryption of the Enigma took place in the United Kingdom. The work of Polish scientists contributed to winning many battles and saving countless human lives. The obverse is decorated with the image of an eagle, which is the emblem of the Republic of Poland.The background consists of letter tables and the outline of the cipher machine. Additionally, the obverse features information on the country of issue, the year of issue and the coin's face value.The reverse of the coin depicts two light bulbs around which two sets of circles are arranged to resemble rays of light.
