25th Anniversary of the Martyrdom Death of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, 2009
The silver collector coin with the likeness of Father Jerzy Popieluszko, was created to honour and remember this remarkable figure. In the 1980s, he served as the chaplain of "Solidarity" and was strongly associated with workers' circles. He was actively involved in the protests, and brought help to all those in need who took part in the protests or were hiding from the justice system. Great dissatisfaction by the communist authorities contributed to the priest's death. The silver coin commemorating Father Popieluszko has a weight of 14.14g and sterling silver 925, and is an ideal addition to the collection. The obverse depicts an illustration of an eagle, which represents the emblem of the Republic of Poland, below which is a rose placed on the tombstone of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko. Additionally, on the obverse there is information on the denomination and the year of minting of the coin, as well as the inscription: RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA (REPUBLIC OF POLAND) and ZÓDEM GOOD WON. The reverse depicts the image of Father Popieluszko, in the background one can see a map of Poland on which there is a red zirconia symbolising a bloody tear. Below is the inscription 25th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father Jerzy Popieluszko. Do you need help?
