The Royal Canadian Mint
The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the most recognizable mints in the world, specializing in the production of circulation, investment and collector coins, as well as precious metal bars. The mint is owned by the Government of Canada and operates as a Crown corporation.
Among the Royal Canadian Mint's most famous products are the gold and silver Maple Leaf coins, which, thanks to their high metal purity, recognizable design and modern security features, are among the most popular bullion coins in the world.

History of the Royal Canadian Mint
The history of the Royal Canadian Mint dates back to 1908, when a branch of the British Royal Mint was established in Ottawa. Initially, the mint produced Canadian coins and gold sovereigns, and was also involved in gold refining.
On December 1, 1931, the institution was taken over by Canada and placed under the Ministry of Finance. In 1969, under the Royal Canadian Mint Act, the mint was granted the status of a Crown corporation, and has since operated as a company wholly owned by the Government of Canada.
In the early stages of its activity, the mint minted mainly gold sovereigns (the famous British bullion coins) and Canadian coins, and was also involved in gold refining. Operations were interrupted for a time by the outbreak of the First World War, which forced a change in the business model and the start of production of components needed for weapons manufacturing by Great Britain.
Gold and silver coins from the Royal Canadian Mint
The Royal Canadian Mint produces a wide selection of gold and silver investment coins. The mint's flagship product is the Maple Leaf series, whose gold version debuted in 1979, and the silver version in 1988.
Maple Leaf coins stand out for their very high metal purity. The gold and silver versions are available in .9999 fineness, and the distinctive maple leaf image has become one of the most recognizable symbols among Canadian bullion coins.
The Royal Canadian Mint also employs advanced solutions to increase coin security. Among them is Bullion DNA™ – a technology using a laser-engraved security mark and digital registration of the coin's image in the mint's database. The system allows for additional authenticity verification of selected gold and silver Maple Leaf coins.

Interesting facts about the Royal Canadian Mint
The Royal Canadian Mint has many exceptional achievements to its name in the production of precious metal coins. In 1982, the mint introduced the world's first gold bullion coin with a purity of 99.99%, and in 1988 similar technology was applied to the production of a silver bullion coin.
In 2007, the famous Million Dollar Coin was created – a gold coin weighing 100 kg with a purity of 99.999%. Its face value was 1 million Canadian dollars.
The mint also produces coins on commission for other countries. Throughout its history, it has fulfilled orders for more than 80 countries.
Scale of production
The Royal Canadian Mint is one of the largest and most technologically advanced mints in the world. The Winnipeg plant is responsible for producing Canadian circulation coins and also fulfills foreign orders. According to the mint's data, the plant produces more than a billion circulation coins per year.
Ottawa, on the other hand, remains the center for production of investment and collector coins, as well as precious metal bars and medals. The Royal Canadian Mint also conducts refining operations and has many years of experience in processing gold and silver.

Most popular Royal Canadian Mint products
The mint's most recognizable product is the Canadian Maple Leaf. Gold and silver coins from this series are valued for their high metal purity, market liquidity, and distinctive design.
Maple Leaf is one of the most important bullion coin series in gold and silver. In addition to their investment value, the coins also attract collectors thanks to successive annual editions and the security features used by the mint.
Bullion DNA technology (digital non-destructive activation) involves registering the coin's image with an encrypted code and storing it in the mint's database. As a result, one-ounce gold and silver Maple Leafs are probably among the best-secured coins in the world.
