Scottsdale Mint is a private mint based in Arizona, founded in 2009 by Josh Phair. The company specialises in gold and silver investment coins, bars and limited collector issues.

Scottsdale Mint is known for its distinctive designs and broad range of bullion products. It produces its own collections as well as coins commissioned by governments and institutions from different countries.

History of Scottsdale Mint

Before entering minting, Josh Phair sold gold and silver coins. In 2009, he expanded into producing his own precious-metal products, creating Scottsdale Mint.

Over time, the mint began working with many countries, designing and producing dedicated coin series for them. These countries include Barbados, Cameroon, Congo, Saint Lucia, Samoa, Fiji, Ghana and Dominica.

Gold and silver Scottsdale Mint products

Scottsdale Mint primarily offers silver bullion and collector coins, but its catalogue also includes gold coins and precious-metal bars.

Scottsdale Mint products often feature high weights and limited mintages. This allows the coins to combine the value of their precious metal with collector appeal.

The mint also produces legal-tender coins for countries for which it fulfils individual issues. This enables original series on historical, religious and cultural themes.

Scottsdale Mint is one of the few private mints in the United States producing precious-metal coins and bars. Unlike the United States Mint, it is not owned by the US government.

Scottsdale Mint focuses mainly on limited coin and bar series, so its operations are smaller than those of the largest state mints.

For example, the Vikings series produced for Niue had a mintage of up to 1,999 pieces, while Biblical coins were limited to 1,499 pieces. Selected Egyptian Relic Series issues were produced in mintages ranging from several to tens of thousands of pieces.

One of the most interesting series is Vikings: Gods, Kings, and Warriors, inspired by Scandinavian mythology and history. The two-ounce silver coins depict Norse gods, kings and warriors.

The Biblical series is also noteworthy, depicting events and figures associated with the Bible. The coins are issued as legal tender of Niue.

Another interesting collection is Egyptian Relic Series, produced for Chad, and Terracotta Warriors, inspired by the famous Terracotta Army of China's First Emperor.

Silver coins dominate Scottsdale Mint's range, but gold issues such as the Cameroonian Mandrill and coloured coins, including EC8 issues, are also available.
