The Police £5 Copper-Nickel 2023 is a unique coin celebrating the English rock band “The Police,” formed in London in 1977. When they appeared on the British music scene, they played a rock style inspired by punk, reggae, and jazz. Their debut album from 1978, Outlandos d'Amour, reached number 6 on the British album chart thanks to the singles “Roxanne” and “Can't Stand Losing You.” The coin is minted from a copper-nickel alloy, weighs 28.21 grams, and has a diameter of 38.61 mm. The coin has no limited mintage. In addition, this unusual specimen was produced by The Royal Mint. The coin is guaranteed by the UK government as to its legality, purity and origin of the metal, and is legal tender in the country of issue. The obverse features the image of King Charles III of Great Britain wearing a crown, the inscription “CHARLES III∙D∙G∙REX∙F∙D” and the denomination and year, designed by Martin Jennings. The reverse of the coin is inspired by the cover of the album “Every Breath You Take” and features the members of “The Police” and the inscription “THE POLICE”.
