The Big Five II: Buffalo 1/4 oz Gold 2023 Proof coin is the fifth installment of the second series - Big Five II. The first series was very popular with collectors and buyers. The limited edition series of Africa's Big Five features animals - the elephant, lion, rhino, leopard, and buffalo. The coin depicts a buffalo. The animals are mainly herbivores. The coin is minted from pure Au.9999 bullion, weighs 1/4 troy ounce and has a diameter of 22 mm, in proof standard. This unique coin was produced by the renowned South Africa Mint and is legal tender in the country of issue. The entire series is guaranteed by the South African government in terms of legality, purity, and origin of the metal. Only 2,000 coins were minted. Individual coins are delivered in a representative package, which provides additional information about both the coin and the animal itself. The obverse shows the head of a buffalo and the inscriptions “SOUTH AFRICA,” “BIG FIVE 2023,” and the coat of arms of South Africa. The reverse shows two halves of a buffalo's head. The reverse features the inscription “FIFTY RAND” and information about the weight and purity of the metal.
