The Wicked 50p Cupronickel Coin 2026 is an issue by The Royal Mint commemorating the 20th anniversary of the London premiere of one of the most famous contemporary musicals. Wicked debuted in the West End on 27 September 2006 and became the longest-running show in the history of the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The production, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, tells the story of Glinda and the future Wicked Witch of the West.
Wicked on a British 50 pence coin
The 50 pence coin is made of cupronickel and weighs 8.00 g, with a diameter of 27.30 mm. The 2026 issue has no limited mintage, making it an accessible option for both beginner collectors and fans of the Wicked musical and British popular culture. The coin combines the recognizable 50p format with a motif celebrating one of the most important theatrical productions of London’s West End.
Obverse and reverse of the coin
The obverse features a portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings, surrounded by inscriptions characteristic of contemporary British coins.
The reverse, designed by Ffion Rees, is dedicated to the musical Wicked and includes elements referring to its distinctive stage design and the story of its main heroines.
