Vienna Philharmonic 1 oz Gold 2012 is an Austrian gold bullion coin struck from gold of Au 999.9 fineness with a weight of 1 troy ounce. The coin is issued by the Austrian Mint (Münze Österreich AG) and has a face value of 100 euros. It features a diameter of approximately 37 mm, a standard reeded edge, and a business strike finish. The specifications are consistent with those of the entire Vienna Philharmonic series.

The Vienna Philharmonic series has been in circulation since 1989 and represents the primary gold bullion coin of the Republic of Austria. Its one-ounce gold content of the highest purity and its distinctive musical design have ensured strong popularity and broad international acceptance. The 100 euro denomination confirms its status as legal tender in Austria, while the actual market value depends on the current gold price. The 2012 issue forms part of the long-running and consistent series.

The iconographic design was created by Thomas Pesendorfer, longtime chief engraver of the Austrian Mint. Since the launch of the program, the layout of the obverse and reverse has remained unchanged, with only the year of issue and descriptive details being updated. This ensures visual consistency and easy identification across all issues.

The obverse depicts the monumental organ of the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna, rendered with great architectural detail. The inscription “REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH” appears at the top. At the bottom are the inscriptions “1 UNZE GOLD 999.9”, the year “2012”, and the face value “100 EURO”.

The reverse features a collection of instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra: a centrally placed cello surrounded by four violins, with a Viennese horn, bassoon, and harp in the background. Along the rim runs the inscription “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER”. The reverse design remains unchanged across all years of the series.
