Victor Hugo 1/4 oz Silver Round
The silver medal Victor Hugo 1/4 ounce of silver (1802–1885) is a beautiful and rare piece designed by Bruce Russell and minted by the now-defunct Guernsey Mint, which makes it a unique numismatic item.
The medal is made of pure silver with a fineness of Ag.9999 and weighs 1/4 ounce. The obverse features a portrait of the famous French writer, poet, and playwright Victor Hugo, who lived on the Channel Islands for 15 years in exile. He is known for works such as *Les Misérables* and *The Hunchback of Notre-Dame*.
The obverse is adorned with the quote: "The Channel Islands are fragments of France which fell into the sea and were gathered up by England" and a map of the Channel Islands and the English Channel.
The reverse features a portrait of Victor Hugo, with the French inscription above it: "Quand La Liberte Reviendra Je Reviendrai," which translates to "When liberty returns, I will return."
