United Kingdom: Sovereign Three-Coin Gold Proof Set 2026
United Kingdom: Sovereign – 2026 Proof 3‑Coin Gold Set is a collector set comprising the Sovereign, Half Sovereign, and Quarter Sovereign. All coins are struck in Au 916.7 (22‑carat) gold to proof standard, with the classic yellow tone of the alloy. The total weight of the set is approximately 13.96 g, corresponding to about 12.81 g of fine gold. The mintage is limited to 650 sets for the worldwide market.
The set comprises three denominations: the Sovereign weighing 7.99 g and measuring 22.05 mm in diameter, the Half Sovereign weighing 3.99 g and measuring 19.30 mm, and the Quarter Sovereign weighing 1.99 g and measuring 13.50 mm. Each coin is struck to proof quality, with a pronounced contrast between the mirror‑like fields and the frosted relief. The set forms part of The Sovereign 2026 Collection, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the use of 22‑carat gold in English and British coinage. The proof Quarter Sovereign is available exclusively within this set.
Obverse of all coins features the left‑facing portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings. Around the rim appears the Latin legend “CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF”, with beading at the edge. Each coin has a milled edge, in line with the specification for modern Sovereigns.
Reverse of all three denominations depicts the classic scene of St George on horseback piercing the dragon with a spear, after Benedetto Pistrucci’s 1817 design. Beneath the ground line appears the date “2026”, and in the exergue the designer’s signature “PISTRUCCI” is visible. The reverse layout remains consistent across all coins in the set; differences arise only from the scale of the relief adjusted to each denomination’s diameter.
