Ukraine 5 Hryvnias Banknote (5 UAH) Circulated Condition
The Ukrainian 5 Hryvnias (5 UAH) circulated banknote is a basic unit of Ukraine’s currency, issued by the National Bank of Ukraine. Combining aesthetic qualities with functionality, the banknote is a popular means of payment and an interesting collectible. The 118 × 63 mm banknote pays tribute to Ukraine’s history and national heritage.
On the obverse of the banknote is a portrait of Bohdan Khmelnytsky (1595–1657), a Cossack hetman and one of the most important leaders in Ukraine’s history, known for fighting for the country’s independence and strengthening its identity.
On the reverse is an image of St. Michael’s Church in Subotiv—one of the symbols of Ukrainian history and a site associated with Bohdan Khmelnytsky, highlighting Ukraine’s spiritual and national heritage.
The 5-hryvnia banknote is equipped with the following anti-counterfeiting security features:
- Watermark with the portrait of Bohdan Khmelnytsky and the numeric denomination “₴5,” visible when backlit.
- Security thread with the microtext “₴5,” visible in light.
- Tilt effect — the denomination “5” changes color depending on the viewing angle.
- Optically variable ink — selected elements of the banknote change color from brown to green.
- Tactile elements, including Khmelnytsky’s portrait, the denomination, and markings for the visually impaired.
Differences between series:
- Series 3 features an enhanced tilt effect and more precise microtexts, increasing protection against counterfeiting.
- Series 2 has classic security features and traditional coloring, while Series 4 offers additional graphic elements and advanced optically variable inks, raising the level of security.
