Ukraine 20 Hryvnias Banknote (20 UAH) Circulated Condition
The Ukraine 20 Hryvnias (20 UAH) circulating banknote is an important element of the Ukrainian currency, serving as a widely used unit of payment. Issued by the National Bank of Ukraine, it combines aesthetic qualities and functionality, serving both as a means of payment and as an interesting collectible. The banknote, measuring 130 × 65 mm, expresses appreciation for Ukraine’s heritage and national identity.
On the obverse of the banknote is a portrait of Ivan Franko (1856–1916), an outstanding poet, writer, and intellectual whose work had a key impact on Ukraine’s culture and national consciousness.
On the reverse the banknote depicts the building of the Lviv Theatre — one of Ukraine’s major cultural centers, symbolizing the development of art and national education and serving as a source of national pride.
To protect against counterfeiting, the 20-hryvnia banknote features the following security elements:
- Watermark with the portrait of Ivan Franko and the numeric denomination “₴20”, visible when held to the light.
- Security thread with “₴20” microtext, visible in light.
- Tilt effect — the denomination “20” changes color depending on the viewing angle.
- Optically variable ink — selected elements of the banknote change color from purple to green.
- Tactile elements, including Franko’s portrait, the denomination, and markings for the visually impaired.
Differences between series:
- Series 2 includes classic security features and a traditional color scheme.
- In Series 3, an improved tilt effect and more distinct microtexts were introduced, making the banknote harder to counterfeit.
- Series 4 offers additional optically variable ink and refined graphic elements, ensuring a higher level of protection.
