The coin highlights the rich heraldry of the Tudor dynasty, drawing on emblems seen throughout the United Kingdom and sculptures found at the entrance to Hampton Court Palace. Henry VIII used heraldry as a powerful visual tool to assert his royal lineage and undeniable claim to the throne.
The full series will include 10 coins depicting heraldic beasts – The Lion of England, The Bull of Clarence, The Tudor Dragon, The Greyhound of Richmond, The Royal Dragon, The Yale of Beaufort, The Seymour Unicorn, The Queen’s Panther, The Queen’s Lion, and The Seymour Panther.
The coin is struck from 1 troy ounce of platinum with a purity of Pt.9995 and has a diameter of 32.69 mm. It has an unlimited mintage. This exceptional piece was produced by The Royal Mint.
Obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III and the coin’s denomination, designed by Martin Jennings.
Reverse depicts one of the Tudor Beasts – the white greyhound – along with the inscription "THE GREYHOUND OF RICHMOND". The reverse was designed by David Lawrence.
