Struck from pure gold of the highest purity (999.9), the coin weighs 1 ounce and is undoubtedly an interesting collector's specimen.The gold coin depicts the coat of arms of the British Monarchies containing an English lion and a Scottish unicorn, guarding the Army Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. This convention has symbolised the power and majesty of the British monarchy for centuries. Timothy Noad's inspiration for this year's coin image came from the iconic Royal Arms design by Eric Sewell. The reverse features an image of a modified coat of arms of the United Kingdom. The obverse captures a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a crown and the coin's denomination (£100).
