The Falcon of the Plantagenets 1 oz gold coin is the next coin in the popular Beasts of the Queen bullion coin series. The series is produced by the Royal Mint in the UK.When Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953 in Westminster Abbey, ten statues, royal protectors called the Queen's Beasts, stood guard. They represented the centuries of history and heritage that had been handed down to the new Queen that day. Each beast has a story to tell and another coin depicting the sixth beast was inspired by the magnificent Plantagents' Falcon. The Falcon of the Plantagenets motif was first used by Edward III, but came into general use under Edward IV. During the reign of Elizabeth I, it was recognised as a royal beast.
