The Firefly Squid colored 3 Euro Copper 2025 is the tenth product in the "Luminous Marine Life" series, which will eventually consist of 12 coins. "The Firefly Squid," a bioluminescent cephalopod, inhabits the coastal waters of Japan, especially Toyama Bay, where it creates spectacular blue illuminations from March to May.
The coin comes from the renowned Austrian Mint. The copper coin from 2025 does not have the weight or fineness of the metal stamped. The coin is legal tender in Austria.
Obverse depicts 12 marine creatures that are part of the "Luminous Marine Life" series. The obverse also includes the coin denomination and the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH".
Reverse features a colored firefly squid and the inscription "FIREFLY SQUID" along with the year of minting. The reverse of the coin glows in the dark, showcasing a bioluminescent effect inspired by the natural illumination of these remarkable creatures.
