The Australian Nugget - Kangaroo 1/20 oz Gold 2002
The Australian Nugget featuring the image of a Kangaroo is one of the most recognizable coins, minted by Australia's oldest mint - the Perth Mint.
The coin is struck from 24-karat gold with a fineness of 9999 and weighs 1/20 ounce. The precursor to today's Australian Kangaroo was the coin known as the Australian Nugget, first produced in 1986. Its design was based on the image of a gold nugget. Shortly after, the design was changed to feature a kangaroo, a symbol closely associated with Australia.
Obverse: The obverse consistently features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, along with her name and the coin’s denomination.
Reverse: Depicts two kangaroos with a map of Australia in the background, along with the inscription "THE AUSTRALIAN NUGGET". The coin also includes information about its weight, year of issue, and gold purity.
