The 225th Anniversary of the Australian Proclamation – Pillar Dollar 1 oz Silver 2025 Antiqued Coin
By issuing the Pillar Dollar 1 oz Silver 2025 Antiqued Coin, The Perth Mint commemorates the 225th anniversary of Australia's Proclamation Coins. These coins were introduced in response to the currency crisis of 1800, which affected the colony of New South Wales. Governor Macquarie imported Spanish reales, converting them into “holey dollars” and “dumps,” marking the beginning of Australian currency. The stylized, antiqued finish gives the coin a historical character and unique appearance.
This product is backed by the Australian government and is legal tender in the issuing country.
Obverse of the coin features a portrait of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, designed by Daniel Thorne, along with the issuing country, metal purity, and the coin’s face value.
Reverse of the coin shows a Spanish crown and two hemispheres symbolizing the Old and New Worlds, surrounded by the Pillars of Hercules with ribbons inscribed “PLVS VLTRA”. The reverse also features the ‘Mo’ mintmark and year of issue.
