The 225th Anniversary of Australian Proclamation Coins - Pillar Dollar 1 oz Silver 2025
By issuing the Pillar Dollar 2025 1oz Silver coin, the Perth Mint commemorates the 225th anniversary of Australian Proclamation Coins. These coins were introduced in response to the 1800 currency crisis that affected the colony of New South Wales. Governor Macquarie brought in Spanish reales, which were transformed into "holey dollars" and "dumps," laying the foundation for the Australian currency.
The product carries the guarantee of the Australian government and is a legal tender within the issuing country.
Obverse of the silver coin features the likeness of King Charles III of the United Kingdom, designed by Daniel Thorne, along with information about the issuing country, the purity of the metal, and the coin's nominal value.
Reverse of the coin depicts the Spanish crown and two hemispheres representing the Old and New Worlds, surrounded by the Pillars of Hercules containing ribbons with the inscription “PLVS VLTRA”. The reverse also features the symbol ‘Mo’ and the date of issue.
