Stanisław August Poniatowski 2005
In November 2005, the National Bank of Poland issued a collector silver coin with a face value of 10 zł featuring the portrait of Stanisław August Poniatowski – the last ruler of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. The coin is part of the prestigious “Gallery of Polish Kings and Princes” series, which highlights figures significant to the nation's history.
Reverse – refined portrait of the ruler
The left side of the reverse features a bust of Stanisław August with a soft shadow in the background. Above the dignitary’s head appears the date “3. Maia / Roku 1791”, commemorating the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May. The inscriptions “STANISŁAW AUGUST” and “PONIATOWSKI” run along the upper edge, while the ruler’s reign years “1764–1795” are shown at the bottom. The coin has a smooth edge.
Obverse – symbol of statehood
The obverse depicts the White Eagle – the coat of arms of Poland – surrounded by the inscription “RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA” with five pearls on each side. The year “20‑05” is placed on both sides of the eagle’s head, and the face value “ZŁ 10 ZŁ” appears below. The mint mark “m/w” is visible under the eagle’s left claw.
Why is it worth it? The 10 zł coin – Stanisław August Poniatowski (bust) combines artistic beauty with historical significance. Dedicated to collectors and enthusiasts of Polish history, it is an elegant addition to numismatic series focused on native rulers.
