Silver Coin Triple Maple 5 oz Silver 2026 Proof
The Triple Maple 5 oz Silver Coin 2026 Proof is the largest and most visually striking edition of the Triple Maple series issued by the Royal Canadian Mint. The 2026 release introduces a new decorative element in the form of black rhodium plating, giving the classic maple leaf motif a modern and distinctive character.
The reverse design was created by longtime Royal Canadian Mint chief engraver Stan Witten, the artist behind the famous Million Dollar Coin from 2007. The composition of three maple leaves was based on real leaves that were arranged, photographed, sketched, and then transformed into a relief design. In the 5 oz version, the leaves and the rims on both sides of the coin are plated with black rhodium, creating a striking contrast against the mirrored background and highlighting every detail of the design.
The coin was struck from 5 ounces of pure .9999 fine silver in Proof quality. It has a diameter of 65.25 mm and a face value of 50 Canadian dollars. The mintage has been limited to just 1,550 pieces worldwide. Thanks to its large format, the design gains additional space, allowing the engraving artistry and the unique black rhodium finish to be fully showcased.
Obverse: features the effigy of King Charles III by Steven Rosati, along with the issuing country, face value, and year of issue. The coin’s rim has been plated with black rhodium, harmonizing with the motif used on the reverse.
Reverse: designed by Stan Witten, it presents a composition of three maple leaves plated with black rhodium and set against a mirrored background. The interplay of light and shadow emphasizes the distinctive contours of the leaves, giving this classic symbol of Canada a modern and elegant appearance. The overall design is a successful combination of a traditional motif and modern minting techniques.
