Silver Coin Prehistoric Life II - Tupandactylus Colourised 1 ounce of silver 2026
Silver Coin Prehistoric Life II - Tupandactylus Colourised 1 ounce of silver 2026 brings a prehistoric flying reptile to precious metal. Issued by the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2026, this Prehistoric Life II coin focuses on the distinctive head crest of Tupandactylus.
A prehistoric theme for a collection
Tupandactylus was a pterosaur, a flying reptile. The coin composition shows it with outstretched wings above an expansive landscape. Its prominent crest and elongated outline give the scene a recognisable character. The subject offers a way to build a collection around ancient life on Earth and compare interpretations of the same motif in different precious-metal versions.
Metal, denomination and mintage
The coin contains 1 troy ounce (31.103 g) of silver with .9999 fineness. Its diameter is 38.6 mm and its face value is 20 francs. The declared mintage of this version is 2 000 coins.
The colourised BU version features a coloured reverse. The blue background and warm tones of the crest emphasise the animal, while the rim and obverse retain their silver appearance.
Obverse and reverse
Obverse depicts the coat of arms of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with a leopard’s head, tusk and spear. It is accompanied by the country name, JUSTICE PAIX TRAVAIL and indications of weight, metal and denomination.
Reverse shows Tupandactylus in flight, with a second individual in the background. PREHISTORIC LIFE, TUPANDACTYLUS, a reference to 112 million years and 2026 appear on the coin. Names of geological periods complete the rim.
