The coin was struck from 1 ounce of .999 fine silver for the Republic of Rwanda and commemorates the Year of the Goat – the eighth sign of the Chinese zodiac, symbolizing gentleness, harmony, creativity, and inner peace.

The Chinese lunar calendar is based on a twelve-year cycle in which each year is represented by a different animal.
