Silver Coin Kangaroo 1 oz Silver 2026 Proof
The 2026 Kangaroo Silver Coin 1 oz Silver Proof is an exceptional issue prepared by the Royal Australian Mint to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the introduction of Australia’s decimal currency system. The coin refers to one of the most recognizable icons of Australian numismatics – the kangaroo motif by Stuart Devlin, which has appeared on the one-dollar circulation coin since 1984. In this anniversary edition, the design has been enhanced with a sixth kangaroo, symbolizing six decades of Australian decimal currency.
The kangaroo has held a special place in the history of Australian minting for over one hundred years. Australia’s first coins struck in 1910 already featured it in the national coat of arms, and in the following years this motif appeared on numerous circulation issues. The most famous design, however, remains Stuart Devlin’s composition of five kangaroos, which has adorned the Australian one-dollar coin since 1984. The 2026 anniversary issue develops this classic motif by adding a sixth kangaroo as a symbol of another decade in the history of Australia’s monetary system.
The coin has a face value of 1 Australian dollar. It was struck from 1 troy ounce of .999 fine silver, has a diameter of 40 mm, and was produced to the highest minting standard of Proof. The mintage is limited to 5,000 pieces. The coin is housed in a protective capsule and an elegant presentation case, accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Obverse: features the official effigy of King Charles III designed by Daniel Thorne.
Reverse: presents an anniversary composition depicting six kangaroos, inspired by Stuart Devlin’s classic design. The addition of the sixth animal symbolizes the 60th anniversary of Australian decimal currency and pays tribute to one of the most recognizable motifs in the history of Australian numismatics. The dynamic scene highlights the characteristic movement of kangaroos and their status as one of Australia’s national symbols.
