Silver Coin Ice Age - Saber-Toothed Tiger Colored 42 g Silver 2026 Proof

The Ice Age Silver Coin – Colorized Saber-Toothed Tiger 42 g Silver 2026 Proof is the third issue in the “Ice Age” series prepared by the Czech Mint, dedicated to the most fascinating predators of the Ice Age.

The coin depicts Smilodon, one of the most famous saber-toothed cats, which inhabited North and South America until the end of the last Ice Age. This animal reached impressive sizes – the largest individuals weighed over 400 kilograms, and their distinctive fangs could grow up to 30 centimeters long. Smilodon was a specialized predator that hunted large animals with thick hides.

The coin was struck from pure .999 silver, with a weight of 42 g and a diameter of 50 mm. The numismatic coin has a face value of 5 New Zealand dollars and was produced in Proof quality, featuring colorization and decorative enamel in shades of ochre, referencing the landscape of the late Ice Age.

The obverse and reverse were designed by MgA. Tereza Eisnerová. The coin is issued by Niue.

Obverse depicts the coat of arms of Niue together with the face value and year of issue. The background of the composition features a landscape inspired by the Ice Age, referring to the natural habitat of prehistoric predators.

Reverse shows two images of the saber-toothed tiger – a full-body depiction of the predator and a close-up of its head with its characteristic long fangs. The design is complemented by the Latin species name SMILODON and an enameled background capturing the atmosphere of the end of the Ice Age.
