Silver Coin Cook Islands: Jurassic Relics – Carcharodontosaurus colored 1 oz Silver 2026 Proof Ultra High Relief
Cook Islands Silver Coin: Jurassic Relics – Carcharodontosaurus 1 oz Silver 2026 Proof Ultra High Relief is a collector’s issue that combines paleontology with modern minting artistry. The coin commemorates one of the largest predators of the Cretaceous—Carcharodontosaurus, whose name means “shark-toothed lizard.”
The coin is struck from 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver and has a diameter of 38.61 mm. Produced in ultra high relief with a silk finish, it offers exceptional depth of detail and strong surface contrast. Each of the 999 limited pieces contains an authentic inlay with a fragment of a Carcharodontosaurus tooth, giving the issue a unique, historical character.
Carcharodontosaurus lived about 100–93 million years ago in what is now North Africa. It reached lengths of up to 13 meters and weights of up to 8 tons. With long, serrated teeth and a massive build, it was among the dominant predators of its era. Although often compared to Tyrannosaurus rex, it lived millions of years earlier.
The coin was issued in 2026 as legal tender of the Cook Islands with a face value of 5 dollars. The release combines collectible rarity with an element of authentic prehistoric material.
Obverse depicts a juvenile Carcharodontosaurus hatching from an egg. On the left is the effigy of King Charles III along with the issuing country and the face value.
Reverse features the head of an adult Carcharodontosaurus in ultra high relief. The design is complemented by the inscriptions “Carcharodontosaurus” and “JURASSIC RELICS,” with a central insert containing an authentic fragment of the dinosaur’s tooth.
