Silver Coin Canada: Clan Animals - Sandhill Crane Colored $15 Silver 2026 Proof
Silver Coin Canada: Clan Animals – Sandhill Crane coloured $15 Silver 2026 Proof is the first issue in the new Clan Animals series prepared by the Royal Canadian Mint. The series is dedicated to clan animals that play an important role in the culture and traditions of the Anishinabek people, serving as symbolic spiritual guides and elements of community identity.
The coin is struck in .9999 fine silver (Ag), with a weight of ¾ troy ounce (23.17 g) and a diameter of 36.07 mm. It has a face value of 15 Canadian dollars and is produced to a Proof standard, featuring selective colouring that highlights the most important elements of the design. The mintage is limited to 10,000 pieces. The coin comes in an elegant mint case.
The reverse design by Mark V. Nadjiwan, an artist from the Neyaashiinigmiing Unceded First Nation in Ontario, refers to the symbolism of the Ajijaak clan—the Sandhill Crane. In Anishinabek tradition, the crane represents leadership, wisdom, and the ability to unite people and convey important messages within the community.
Obverse features the effigy of King Charles III by Steven Rosati, along with the issuing country, year of issue, and face value.
Reverse depicts a stylized image of a Sandhill Crane standing among reeds. The composition is rendered in a modern style using contrasting colours—the red symbolizing the sun and the bird’s characteristic red head patch—set against natural, earthy background tones.
