Australian Emu Colorized Silver Coin 1 oz Silver 2026
The Australian Emu Colorized Silver Coin 1 oz Silver 2026 is a remarkable collector’s piece produced by the renowned Australian mint, The Perth Mint. The coin features the emu – Australia’s largest living bird and one of the most distinctive symbols of the country’s wildlife. This colorized edition combines high minting quality with a striking interpretation of the Australian outback landscape.
Australian Emu – a series created for Metal Market Europe
The history of the Australian Emu series dates back to 2018, when it was launched as part of a collaboration between Metal Market Europe and The Perth Mint. Subsequent releases are produced as exclusive editions intended for Metal Market Europe, which is responsible for their authorized and exclusive distribution. This model of cooperation has given the series its distinctive character while maintaining its limited availability. Thanks to low mintages, a recognizable Australian wildlife theme, and a high standard of craftsmanship, Australian Emu coins are highly sought after by collectors of modern numismatics.
One ounce of pure silver and a limited mintage
The coin has been struck from 1 troy ounce of .9999 fine silver. Its minimum gross weight is 31.107 g, corresponding to a content of 1 oz of pure silver. The coin has a maximum diameter of 40.90 mm and a thickness of 3.50 mm. It bears a face value of 1 Australian dollar and is official legal tender in Australia. A particular highlight of this version is its maximum mintage, limited to just 2,500 pieces, emphasizing the collectible nature of the issue.
The emu occurs naturally only in Australia and is the largest living bird on the continent, as well as the second-largest bird in the world. Although its small wings prevent it from flying, its long and powerful legs allow it to reach speeds of nearly 50 km/h. Its distinctive plumage also helps it adapt to significant temperature fluctuations in the demanding conditions of the Australian interior. These characteristics make the emu an especially fascinating motif for Australian collector coins.
Australian Emu 2026 coin design
The obverse was designed by Dan Thorne. It features the official effigy of the monarch, in keeping with the contemporary design style of Australian circulation and collector coins, together with inscriptions appropriate to the issuing authority and the face value of 1 AUD.
The reverse, designed by Jennifer McKenna, depicts an adult emu running through the Australian interior. The bird has been highlighted with colorization, while above the landscape stretches a striking sky in shades of blue and purple. Among the low vegetation and rocky terrain, a farm building and a windmill can also be seen, enhancing the distinctive atmosphere of the Australian landscape. The composition is completed by the inscription “AUSTRALIAN EMU,” the year of issue 2026, details of the coin’s weight and silver fineness, and The Perth Mint’s “P” mintmark.
