It pays tribute to one of the most important events in the history of underwater archaeology and marine exploration.

The wreck of RMS Titanic was discovered in 1985 by a team led by oceanographer Robert Ballard, more than 73 years after the ship’s tragic sinking during her maiden voyage in April 1912. The discovery, made at a depth of nearly 4 kilometers, was possible thanks to the use of advanced deep-sea technology and allowed the remains of the legendary ocean liner resting on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean to be seen for the first time. This event became a breakthrough both in the history of seafaring and in the development of underwater research.

The coin was struck from 28.28 g of .925 fine silver, has a diameter of 38.6 mm, and a face value of 5 pounds. The worldwide mintage was limited to just 1,770 pieces, emphasizing the collectible nature of the issue.

Obverse features the official effigy of King Charles III by Jody Clark, along with the face value and the name of the issuer.

Reverse, designed by Sandra Deiana, depicts the majestic ocean liner RMS Titanic with her distinctive four funnels rising above the rough waves of the Atlantic.
